Some information about Valderice

VALDERICE, is a municipality in the province of Trapani, which is part of the northern coastline of the old Agro Ericino, bathed by the Tyrrhenian sea.

The town, with a population of 12,000, lies on a hill only 7 km from Trapani, the territory of which extends for 53 kilometres.
From the summit of Ragosia hill, it slopes down towards the sea where nature displays itself like a great painting of everything that is beautiful in its creation. An ancient land, situated in the vast valley of Mount Erice, it offers incomparable panoramic scenery of the hills, dedicated to agriculture, down to the crystalline sea. The mild climate, in all seasons, has a sea breeze which renders residential and touristic stays pleasant, as the brilliant, cheerful sunshine pleasantly warms the airy territory below. Testimony of its ancient, rustic civilisation are the numerous rural buildings known as ‘Bagli’. These are rural fortified structures built around 1700 in strategic positions for the great baronial properties. Some of these buildings have been restored and transformed into tourist accommodation – see ‘Brezza d’Estate and the Baglio’ Historical documents found in archives of that era, state that in the 17th century Valderice was known as a health resort and area of ‘Quies’ (repose).
Today, the great villas, among the green gardens and scents of the citrus groves, resist the wear of time pretty well.
